SLA Junior Seminar 5: Madame Doubtfire

WANTED: CLEANER WHO CAN ALSO LOOK AFTER CHILDREN. Miranda got only four telephone calls in answer to her advertisement.

The cover of this book is obviously a 'woman' who held dusters. But guess what, 'she' is played by one father. All he wants to do is to be near his children.

In this story. there are three children whose parents get divorced. Their father moves out so they live with their mother. Daniel, the three children's father has visitation right on Saturdays until he gets a job. Obviously, this is not enough for Daniel, he wants more time with his children. By a chance, he knows his ex-wife,Miranda wants a housekeeper. He misses his children so much so he makes himself up and puts on the dress just like a middle-aged British nanny. He starts leaning to clean, cook, and so on. What do you think his family will recognize him finally?

SLA Junior Seminar 4: Mr Bean in Town

In the restaurant Mr Bean doesn't like his food. He tries to hide it in very strange places!

I can't stop laughing when I finished watching Mr Bean for the first time. He is so funny, always do stupid things. There are two stories about Mr Bean's life in this book. Let me introduce one of them.
In the evening, Mr Bean goes out to a restaurant for dinner because he wants to celebrate his birthday. The restaurant is so extravagant that Mr Bean seldom goes there. But he feels that it would be a good restaurant for his birthday dinner. Then he receives the menu from the manager and he starts to read it. He thinks everything is much too expensive since he only has eleven pounds and fifty-five pence. Mr Bean has no choice to order the cheapest one, Steak tartare. It is a meat that is eaten raw. Obviously, Mr Bean doesn't like it. He starts to find someplace to hide it. What do you think where he will do with it?
I love Mr Bean, not just because of his interesting thing, but also his keen to a good life.

SLA Junior Seminar 3: Falling leaves

I believed that if I tried hard enough, one day everyone in my family would be proud of me. (p19)

I believe there are a lot of people don't know the meaning of this title. Please allow me to introduce this book firstly, and you would find an answer on your own.
"Falling Leaves" is a heartbreaking story, which is about Adeline Yen Mah's childhood in China. However, her childhood was not so happy as other people. Mah's mother died giving birth to her, the family considered her bad luck. The situation became worse when her father married the stepmother. Most of her family ignored the existence of Mah, except Aunt Baba. Mah thought Aunt Baba was just like her mother who really care about her and gave her the feeling of warmth. In her school, Mah worked hard and she was an excellent student. She finally received the permission of her parents to study at the university of London. Mah found people living around her pass away. She overcame all the difficulities to prove her worth through her life.
I was impressed by the sentence of this book, 'Life had come full circle'. I believe that God is fair to everyone. I am glad that I have a chance to read this book, to see how brave and independent Mah is.
