David always dreams of a city he has never seen before. Since he lives in Waknuk, it is best for him not to stand out. When he was 10, he met a girl called Sophie. They play together until Sophie's shoe gets stuck between two rocks. However, Sophie refuses to take off her shoe because her toes are different from others. David knows her secret by chance, but he never tells anyone. According to the belief in his region, people must be perfect. This belief is based on the idea that man is the image of God and should have a head, a body, two legs, two arms, ten fingers, and ten toes. Therefore, anyone who doesn't match the condition of God would be punished. David knows it well but his life becomes dangerous after that.
