Lorna Doone

The Doone family live in a secret valley on Exmoor. They are robbers and murderers. One day, Carver Doone murders young John Ridd's father. John is a boy, but soon he will be a man. Then he will kill Carver Doone.

The story is set in the 17th century in the South-West of England. John Ridd is the son of a respectable farmer who was murdered in cold blood by Carver Doone. The Doone family live in a secret valley on Exmoor. They are robbers and murderers. One day, John meets a beautiful young girl in Doone Valley. He falls hopelessly in love with her. But the girl’s name is Lorna Doone and Carver Donner will let nothing get in the way of his marriage to her, which he plans to force upon her, once Sir Ensor dies and he comes into his inheritance. Having suffered many difficulties, these two people finally could be together. The phrase I like the most is: “She was not Lorna Doone, and she was not Lady Lorna Dugal, She was Lady Lorna Ridd” on page 61 because I think they love each other so much and for two people who are meant to be together, nothing can keep them apart. I recommend this book because it’s a romantic, and adventurous tale of forbidden love.
